WhatsApp, an instant messaging application, tests new features with subsequent updates across platforms. In the latest move, the company is working on 'lists' to better manage people and groups, according to WABetaInfo. The option was spotted undergoing development in the Android beta "2.24.16.14" version. As per the report, it may be available in an upcoming version of WhatsApp.
The news tracker reported the feature is not rolling out to testers at the moment. However, beta users must keep their app updated from the Google Play Store to ensure they receive the feature whenever it starts rolling out. The feature could build on the favourite filter that filters chats and groups. With filters, WhatsApp may aim to better locate conversations from contacts and groups.
As per the screengrab shared in the report, the 'Lists' option to "manage people and groups" may show up within the settings. WhatsApp users may be able to create different lists to organise contacts and groups. This will add a layer of organisation to manage interactions for people having a long list of contacts. It will allow users to sort and categorise contacts and groups.

While no precise details are available, WABetaInfo said it could be used for status updates to allow easier sharing of videos and photos with a defined audience. It may allow users to create custom lists to target a status update to family, friends or colleagues without sharing them with others and regularly editing the privacy settings.
The news tracker also noted these lists may be used to apply filters and locate specific persons in the chats list. However, none of the speculated functionalities are confirmed and the implementation may change. Hence, you must take the details in the report with a pinch of salt. Meanwhile, the company is also developing a voice chat mode for Meta AI.
