TWITTER, a prominent microblogging network that has seen ups and downs since Elon Musk's takeover, has suffered yet another setback as a result of the contentious Twitter Blue subscription. Chris Messina, the creator of the well-known hashtags, has opted to leave the firm over Elon Musk's decision to remove the legacy blue tick and the company's change in the general verification process.

Who Is Chris Messina:

The idea of hashtags, which let users take on issues by using the hash sign (#) as a prefix, was first put forth by the product manager Messina in 2007. Later, the suggested concept enjoyed tremendous popularity and was adopted by social media juggernauts Facebook and Instagram. After that, users were able to broaden the reach of their posts by using hashtags as search terms, and trending hashtags are now displayed in real-time in a distinct section of Twitter.

In all, the whole idea helped Twitter to get huge traction in terms of users, an organised user interface, and a process.

Why Chris Messina Left Twitter:

"My choice isn't about the badge; it's about everything that leads up to the badge and how it's been handled," Messina said in a special interview with The Verge. "Twitter deserved more decency and consideration than it has received in the last six months," he added.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk:

Previously, the new Twitter CEO indicated that he despises hashtags. A user asked ChatGPT to construct a tweet to which Musk may respond, and ChatGPT published a tweet using hashtags, to which Musk replied, "I hate hashtags."

Meanwhile, Twitter has officially started removing the legacy blue tick from the profiles of users including celebrities, sportspersons, media personalities, and more. Virat Kohli, Shah Rukh Khan, and Amitabh Bachchan are among some personalities who lost their blue tick. However, some personalities like Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Pope Francis, and others still have their blue ticks intact. On asking, Elon Musk replied, I am paying for some users he said.
