OnePlus has finally confirmed what leaks were hinting at for weeks: the OnePlus 15R will debut as the first smartphone globally to run Qualcomm’s brand-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. And this isn’t a small upgrade. Qualcomm is promising big jumps in power, graphics, and AI—the kind that should make the 15R feel noticeably faster than the 13R it replaces.
Qualcomm claims the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip improves CPU performance by 36%, GPU speeds improve by 11%, and AI performance increases 46% over its predecessor—using Oryon CPU architecture, an upgraded Adreno GPU, and Hexagon NPU for AI processing. Furthermore, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support, as well as its next-gen X80 modem with support for 6-antenna reception, are all part of its offerings, promising a faster and more stable 5G experience for its users.

Everything we know about the OnePlus 15R
The 15R launches in India on December 17, alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2. It will sell via Amazon and OnePlus’ online store in Charcoal Black and Mint Breeze. OnePlus is also giving it a very aggressive durability rating—IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K—the full suite of dust- and water-resistance certifications normally reserved for rugged phones.

Leaks give an accurate representation of what the hardware may look like: anticipate a 6.7-inch 1.5K OLED display, an 8,000 mAh+ battery capacity, and 100 W fast charging. Leaked information also suggests a 50MP main sensor coupled with 8MP ultrawide imaging; storage could reach 1TB UFS 4.1 storage, and 16GB LPDDR5X Ultra RAM will make up its camera setup.
With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 at the center, the 15R looks set to be OnePlus’ most powerful R-series phone to date—and one of the first real showcases of Qualcomm’s next generation of mobile performance.
