WWDC 2024 News: Apple will host its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 from June 10 to June 14. The company has already teased upcoming iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS for the event. While no hardware launch is rumoured, reports have already spilt out many details for the software side. For a better look, here are the top expectations from this year's WWDC.
iOS 18
Apple will likely introduce the next generation operating system for iPhones on June 10. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company could terms the AI tweaks as "Apple Intelligence". Most AI features across Siri, Messages, Safari, Mail, Photos, Notes, Voice Memos, Apple Music and the ChatGPT-like technology will likely be introduced in the beta phase as opt-in features. These may include summarisation, AI-based editing, transcription, generative AI emojis, and more.
While some of these features may depend on cloud processing, rest could work on-device on iPhone 15 Pro and upcoming Apple handsets. The company may also introduce cosmetic UI updates and features for the Control Center, Home Screen, new accessibility options, Rich Communication Services (RCS) support on iMessage and a Passwords app among significant non-AI updates.
iPadOS 18
The upgraded Siri, ChatGPT technology (likely a result of the OpenAI partnership) and Spotlight search could expand to iPad's upcoming software. Moreover, the Calculator and Passwords app are rumoured for iPad OS 18. A range of AI features in iOS apps may also expand to iPads.
watchOS 11
According to MacRumors, Apple may bring a version of Siri optimised for on-the-go tasks for Apple Watch users. Gurman noted the interface could format responses uniquely based on a query. Plus tweaks for apps like Fitness and cosmetic upgrades within the UI are expected.
macOS 15
The upcoming PC software could borrow some features from the iOS suite. New tweaks for Photos, Notes, Calendar, Messages and more apps may also sneak into eligible MacBook, iMac and other macOS-powered devices running an eligible chip. Apple may also bring new wallpapers for iPhone, iPad and Mac devices. Plus, Xcode could get AI features to supercharge coding on these machines.
tvOS 18
While no major leaks have pointed fingers at the possible features to expect from tvOS, users can anticipate that Apple may bring a pie of AI features and upgraded Siri to its TV experience.
visionOS 2
Mark Gurman noted Apple could bring dedicated versions of apps like Home, Voice Memos, Apple News and more in the upcoming update and add some missing features. The company could bring Live Captions to FaceTime and introduce Apple Pencil Pro support in Vision Pro.
