X Video, Audio Calls: Elon Musk's X (formerly called Twitter) has been in the news for a while for introducing audio and video calling features for Premium users last year. The company is now releasing the feature to non-Premium users. This feature allows users to make calls just like other popular platforms like WhatsApp. However, unlike the Meta app, this does not require a working mobile number to make or receive calls.
The update was shared by engineer Enrique Barragan and also reshared by CEO Linda Yaccarino on X. The feature is "slowly rolling out" to non-premium users. Users can also opt to receive calls from "Everyone" on the platform. This comes as a piece of good news for non-paying accounts after the exit of a flurry of features (for instance, SMS-based two-factor authentication) from the platform.
The X Premium service allows users to edit posts, upload longer videos, verified badge and more. With the coming of the new feature, free users can interact via audio and video calls. If you wish to use the feature, here is how to enable/disable audio and video calling.
