XReal 1S smart glasses launch in Japan: XReal unveiled their more budget-conscious AR glasses model, the XReal 1S, in Japan this month. It stands out from its counterpart by featuring automatic real-time 2D-to-3D video conversion – a first in consumer AR eyewear. The device targets users who want an accessible entry into spatial displays for entertainment, gaming, or light productivity. XReal also announced a companion 10,000 mAh battery pack called the Neo.
Key Features and Hardware
The 1S features upgraded optics built around Sony-made 0.68-inch micro-OLED panels, each providing 1920x1200 resolution at up to 120 Hz refresh rate with 108% sRGB coverage. Furthermore, brightness has been increased to 700 nits, while the field of view expands up to 52 degrees.

The star feature is the live conversion of 2D content into 3D. Switching to this mode reduces the refresh rate to 30 Hz, but XReal’s X1 spatial chip handles frame generation and distortion correction across thousands of nodes and maintains a deeply anchored virtual screen with 3DoF tracking. Latency goes as low as 3 ms.

XReal says the new 3D feature will also be rolled out to the existing One and One Pro via a software update.
Design, Comfort and Audio
Weighing 82 grams, the 1S is lighter than the standard One and features flexible temples and an adjustable hinge. Light transmittance can shift between 0%, 35% and 100% depending on surroundings.
Audio performance gets a bump too. The open-ear speakers now include Bose-supervised tuning and Spatial Sound 4.0. Four microphones, voice focus algorithms and uplink ENC are designed to increase call clarity; however, outside noise will still be audible as with open-ear systems.

Pricing and Availability
Pre-orders in Japan are open at ¥67,980 (roughly ₹40,000), with global availability expected later.
XReal has also introduced the Neo battery pack priced at ¥14,580. It offers pass-through video for AR glasses and can serve as a dock for the Nintendo Switch lineup. A bundle with the glasses costs ¥76,560, and early buyers get an XReal Hub as a bonus.
Conclusion
The XReal 1S delivers a meaningful upgrade over the standard One: higher brightness, wider FOV, lighter frame and a unique 2D-to-3D conversion experience. If international pricing lands slightly above the current $399 tag of the One, the 1S could become a strong value pick for anyone curious about spatial displays without spending Pro-level money.
