Google is quietly working on one of the biggest overhauls the Gemini experience has seen so far. The company has confirmed that a completely redesigned version of the Gemini app is in development under the internal tag “UX 2.0”, alongside a dedicated macOS application. Together, these updates signal Google’s intent to refine how users navigate, discover tools and rely on Gemini across devices.
A Full UX Overhaul In Progress
For months, users have raised concerns about Gemini’s interface feeling cluttered or unintuitive. Many find it difficult to locate settings, switch tools, or move fluidly between tasks, especially when comparing it with competing AI apps that offer more structured layouts. These issues have only grown more visible as Gemini expands across more platforms.
Google appears to be taking these concerns seriously. Logan Kilpatrick, Group Product Manager at Google DeepMind, responded to a user on X and confirmed that the company is investing heavily in a major UX redesign. According to him, UX 2.0 goes beyond visual polish. He explained that UI deals with appearance—buttons, menus, and icons—while UX focuses on the user’s overall journey inside the product. This new update is aimed at reshaping that journey end-to-end rather than making incremental improvements.

macOS Version Of Gemini App Confirmed
In a separate conversation on X, Kilpatrick confirmed that Google Vice President Josh Woodward and his team are actively building a macOS version of the Gemini app. Once released, users will be able to run Gemini as a native application on their Mac desktops and laptops instead of accessing it through a browser. While specific features were not revealed, the move suggests Google may expand Gemini to support desktop-orientated workflows more deeply.

A Broader Evolution For The Gemini Ecosystem
With UX 2.0 and the macOS app now officially acknowledged, Google is gearing up for a more unified ecosystem around Gemini. Both projects are underway, but Google has not provided any timeline for public release. Even so, the confirmations alone indicate that substantial changes are on the horizon, and users can expect a more refined, capable, and device-integrated Gemini experience in the months ahead.
