YouTube has officially rolled out its first dedicated Recap experience, building on the popularity of Spotify Wrapped and expanding beyond the existing recap offered in YouTube Music. Announced on December 2, the new Recap delivers a personalised, end-of-year summary based on your YouTube watch history, giving users a more detailed look at their viewing patterns, interests and deep dives across the year.

"YouTube Recap uniquely highlights interests, deep dives, and moments you explored this year, based on your watch history," the company said in a press release. The feature launches first for North America, with a global rollout scheduled this week, following nine rounds of internal feedback and more than fifty concept tests.

How YouTube Recap Works

To access Recap, open the YouTube app on Android, iPhone or desktop and sign in. On the homepage, go to the You tab, where a banner will indicate that "Your Recap is here." If the banner does not appear, users can directly visit youtube.com/Recap through any browser.

What YouTube Recap Includes

Users will see up to twelve personalised cards highlighting top channels, interests, categories explored and how their viewing habits evolved. YouTube will also assign each viewer a personality type based on their watch history. These include the Sunshiner, the Wonder Seeker and the Connector, with the Philosopher and the Dreamer ranking among the rarest profiles.

For viewers who consumed a significant amount of music this year, Recap will also show top artists and songs. To complement the launch, YouTube has released trend charts listing the top creators, podcasts and songs of 2024.
