YOUTUBE, a popular video streaming platform owned by Google, appears to be undergoing significant changes for its users. YouTube has decided to discontinue the Stories option for creators in a new update. The company has announced that beginning June 26, no creator will be able to post stories on YouTube. Furthermore, the company has announced that users will be unable to post stories on June 26th and that existing stories will be deleted within the next 7 days.
What Are YouTube Stories
YouTube Stories debuted in 2017 and functioned similarly to Instagram Stories. Users with more than 10,000 subscribers on the platform were able to post stories that were automatically removed from the channel after a set period of time. The feature's goal was to give creators the option of sharing real-time post updates, behind-the-scenes photos and videos, promotions, and other types. However, the feature never came as the highlight of the platform given the shorts and videos got more attention. Even YouTube rarely promoted it.
YouTube Stories Alternative
The stories are now said to be removed, the company is now asking users to rely on the community posts and shorts for the basic updates. The company said it is a great alternative and can be a valuable option for audience connections and conversations.
Further, the company has announced that for promoting the content, starting conversations with community posts is the best option as it gets more engagement compared to the stories.
Meanwhile, Google has announced that it will remove inactive accounts from Google Workspace and Photos that have not been used in the last two years. However, YouTube was also on the list, but it later announced that it would not be deactivated. Twitter has also announced a similar move wherein the platform will be deactivating inactive accounts. To prevent that the users are required to log in to their accounts at least every 30 days and use it as per the latest policies.
