YouTube is among the popular video-watching and streaming platforms of Google. While you may visit the app for video consumption daily, do you know when was the first YouTube video uploaded on the platform? The first video on YouTube was uploaded on April 23, 2005. This clip was uploaded 19 years ago by YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim.

The 18-second clip titled 'Me at the zoo' has garnered 317 million views (317,105,115) on the platform and the YouTube channel currently enjoys a subscriber base of 4.63 million. This is the only video on the YouTube channel named 'Jawed'. Karim is visible hosting the video from San Diego Zoo, US, while standing in front of elephants. The video also has three timestamps: 'Intro', 'The cool thing' and 'End'.

"Alright. So here we are, in front of the elephants. The cool thing about these guys is that they have really, really, really long, um, trunks. And that's, that's cool," Karim says in the video. "And that's pretty much all there is to say," he concludes. Different from the videos seen in recent times, a call to action to subscribe, like or comment on the video is missing.

In the age of 8K content, YouTube's first video can be viewed at a maximum quality of 240p. The video has amassed 16 million likes. For the unaware, a year after the video, Google bought the platform from Karim and other cofounders for $1.65 billion, according to CNN Business. The video platform currently logs a user base of 265 million visitors every month in India.

YouTube states that over one billion hours of content is viewed on the platform daily, according to a CNBC report. For the unaware, Chad Hurley, Jawed Karim and Steve Chen who were former PayPal employees are credited for launching YouTube in 2005.
