Hype Launched In India: YouTube has rolled out its new “Hype” feature in India, aiming to give smaller creators more visibility and help them reach new audiences. Google India recently shared that finding fresh viewers can be tough for many creators, especially those with under 500,000 subscribers, and Hype is designed to ease that challenge.
The feature is integrated right below the Like button on videos from eligible creators. Viewers can “Hype” their favourite videos, which then earn points to climb a Top 100 Leaderboard shown under the Explore section. The higher a video ranks, the better its chances of being featured on YouTube’s homepage, potentially drawing more views and engagement.

Users are allowed to hype up to three videos each week, but only during the first seven days after a video is published. To encourage growth among smaller creators, YouTube gives bonus points to videos from channels with fewer subscribers, helping them compete fairly with bigger names.
Hype was tested in markets like Turkey, Taiwan, and Brazil earlier this year. During the four-week beta, over 5 million Hypes were given across more than 50,000 channels, signalling strong interest and engagement from users.
Besides Hype, YouTube has introduced other creator-focused tools recently. These include automatic dubbing, which helps translate audio into different languages; new digital gifts for live streams to boost fan interaction; and the Inspiration Tab, an AI-powered assistant offering video ideas, titles, and outlines.
All in all, Hype and these new features highlight YouTube’s commitment to helping creators grow their audiences and making content discovery easier on the platform.
