YouTube Premium Lite Launched:  On March 5, YouTube announced the launch of Premium Lite, a new subscription plan designed to be the cheapest way to enjoy ad-free content on the platform. Priced at $7.99 per month (around ₹695), the plan is currently available only in the US, with a wider rollout expected in the coming weeks.

What Does YouTube Premium Lite Offer?

While Premium Lite brings ad-free streaming for "most videos" on YouTube, it comes with some trade-offs compared to the standard YouTube Premium plan, which costs $13.99 per month (~₹1,200).

The biggest difference? No YouTube Music. Unlike the full Premium experience, Premium Lite does not include ad-free music streaming, background play, or offline downloads. Users will still have to deal with ads when listening to music on the platform.

Another key detail—YouTube says the plan offers ad-free access to "most" videos, but ads may still appear on Shorts, music content, and while browsing or searching.

Where Is It Available?

The Premium Lite pilot has kicked off in the US, but YouTube plans to expand it soon to Australia, Germany, and Thailand.

This new subscription tier was first rumored last month, and now it's officially here. The launch comes as YouTube celebrates its 20th anniversary, boasting a whopping 125 million subscribers, including trial users.

With this move, YouTube is offering more flexibility for users who want an ad-free experience without committing to the full Premium package.
