Deepinder Goyal, who co-founded Zomato, is now venturing into aviation with LAT Aerospace, an emerging company focused on revolutionising regional air travel in India. With funding set at 50 million dollars, and Goyal contributing 20 million himself, the goal of the company is to make commercial flying as simple and cheap as taking a bus for Tier 2 and 3 cities.

This marks a turning point for Goyal as he attempts to address India's ongoing struggle with costly remote region flights.

What Is LAT Aerospace?

A New Approach to Regional Aviation

As a “bus in the sky” scheme, LAT Aerospace is being brought to life by Zomato alumnus Surobhi Das, along with other co-founders. The company plans to:

  • Use compact air-stops instead of traditional airports for small aircraft operations.
  • Remove long security lines and chaotic terminals.
  • Offer affordable and frequent flights to neglected areas.
  • Make use of underused airstrips - India has more than 450 airstrips, but only ~150 are commercially active.

Vision Statement

“Access shouldn’t be a privilege. It should be an entitlement — solved by intentional design.” — Surobhi Das, Co-founder, LAT Aerospace

The Problem LAT Aerospace Aims to Solve

Current Situation

LAT Aerospace Solution

High cost of regional air travel

Low-cost, high-frequency flights

Limited flights to Tier 2 & 3 cities

Connecting underserved regions

Long road or rail travel hours

Short-haul air routes from smaller hubs

Underused aviation infrastructure

Tap into 300+ unused airstrips

Each month, millions living outside metro areas endure tiresome road journeys and lack reliable train services because affordable flights don’t exist. With LAT aerospace, there’s hope for revolutionising this gap with modern aviation.

Funding and Team Building

  • Total Funding Raised: $50 million
  • Goyal’s Investment: $20 million
  • Current Role: Deepinder Goyal is listed as the Non-Executive Founder of LAT Aerospace

LAT Aerospace is hiring aerospace engineers, designers, and aviation specialists. This shows that the company has reached self-sustaining product development and scaling.

  • The cost to the passenger is low due to minimal operational costs.
  • Reliably frequent for all ultra-short air routes in India or between Indian cities on an hourly basis.
  • Used a total-welcome approach to design a completely new aircraft ecosystem optimised for India, both geographically and demographically.

Final Thoughts
