Business video platform Zoom has introduced an AI-based open collaboration platform - Zoom Workplace, alongside new AI Companion expansions. The Ask AI Companion can help boost productivity by integrating information from Zoom Meetings, Mail, Team, Docs, Notes, Chat and more. Plus, it can help people summarise chats and emails, frame agendas, recap meetings and more.

Zoom also emphasised AI enhancements for Zoom Phone. Users can ask for a summary of the call and the next steps. Plus, 'voicemail prioritisation' will help you catch up on urgent updates. 'Voicemail task extraction' can extract tasks from voicemails to help users know the next steps without listening to the voicemail. Thirdly, the 'Team SMS thread summary' can help prepare an overview of the SMS threads to catch up.

The company also highlighted Team Chat's capabilities, such as smart scheduling for chats and Zoom Whiteboard's feature to "generate and refine whiteboard flowcharts and mind maps" via prompts. Next to Zoom Workplace for businesses, the company introduced fresh UI tweaks, such as new themes and customised virtual backgrounds. A new 'Meeting tab' will let employees collaborate "before, during, and after" meetings.

Zoom also introduced the new 'multi-speaker view' that can auto-adapt the layout to focus on the speaker in a meeting. Users can also use the 'portrait lightning' to illuminate faces and 'generative AI backgrounds' for custom backdrops. A customisable toolbar will allow members to pin frequently used features. Multi-share (for sharing multiple screens in a meeting) and document collaboration (to co-edit and share documents) are among the 40 enhancements.

In the Zoom Contact Center, users can now expand communication channels to WhatsApp and email for user engagement. "With new AI Companion image generation [in Zoom Events], hosts can now create custom images based on a simple text prompt for event registration pages, virtual backgrounds, and marketing emails," Zoom added. These features are said to be available from next month and May this year.
