A political slugfest erupted over the arrest of the popular Telegu filmstar Allu Arjun with opposition parties including YSRCP and BJP slamming the state government. Whereas, the ruling Congress defended the action over the actor of the global blockbuster Pushpa-2 in the Sandhya theatre stampede.
Congress maintained that the law was taking its course and the ruling party did not have any problem with the actor, Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday.
“The cases filed against Arjun are within the purview of law and the court granted him bail," he said as quoted by news agency PTI.
Goud highlighted that it was the Congress chief ministers of undivided Andhra Pradesh who played a key role in relocating the Telugu film industry from Chennai to Hyderabad during the 1980s. He said that his party holds admiration for all cinema heroes and bears no hostility toward anyone.

Goud criticised BJP leaders for targeting the Congress government over the arrest of Allu Arjun on Friday, following the death of a woman during a stampede at the premiere of his film Pushpa 2 earlier this month.
Meanwhile, BJP slammed the Revanth Reddy-ruled Congress government, with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw calling Allu Arjun's arrest a publicity stunt.
"Congress has no respect for the creative industry and the arrest of Allu Arjun proves it yet again. The mishap at Sandhya Theatre was a clear case of poor arrangements by the state and local administration. Now, to deflect that blame, they are indulging in such publicity stunts," Vaishnaw wrote on social media platform X.
"The Telangana Government should assist those affected and punish those making the arrangements that day instead of continuously attacking film personalities. It is also sad to see this becoming a norm in the one year Congress has been in power there," he wrote on X.
