Hyderabad News: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) officials on Friday stated that the airport is soon considering expanding its global connectivity by adding 10 direct flights to different cities of the world. They stated that while currently the airport has connectivity to 22 international destinations, the step will ensure better global connectivity.
The RGIA officials stated that the first batch of direct flights from Hyderabad to several significant cities, including Hong Kong, Hanoi, Addis Ababa, and Amsterdam, will start in the next six months. Apart from this, they also stated that the authorities are also having discussions with several Indian and international carriers to launch new destinations over the next 12 to 18 months.
The officials further stated that apart from the travelers, the expansion plan will significantly benefit thousands of students who are pursuing higher education in France and Australia. While the travelers to Australia have to travel for 14 hours with layovers in Singapore or Bangkok, the direct flights will save their time and money.
The officials emphasised that direct flights can reduce the travel time to seven to eight hours, adding that the expansion will also benefit people traveling to Paris. CEO-GMR of Hyderabad International Airport Ltd., Pradeep Panicker, stated that the authorities are collaborating with other international airlines.
"We are collaborating with other international airlines to explore new routes. With the establishment of bilateral agreements, there is significant interest in connecting Hyderabad to emerging destinations such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan," Panicker was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
Panicker further stated that the international traffic is expected to grow in the upcoming seasons. "With domestic carriers such as IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Group receiving significant aircraft deliveries in FY2026, strong demand for new routes is anticipated from Hyderabad and its catchment regions, with operations likely to begin in Vietnam, Hong Kong, Ethiopia, Amsterdam, and some other Southeast Asian cities. In the forthcoming season, we are expecting significant growth in international traffic in FY2026," he added.
