In a separate incident, two people have died and 117 others were injured during the ‘Dahi Handi’ festival celebrations in Mumbai and the neighbouring city of Thane, which attracted large crowds, including celebrities. Among those attending the festivities in Thane on Saturday were Bollywood actors Govinda, Chunky Pandey, and Sunil Shetty.

The event also saw political leaders from Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) coming together, fueling speculation about a possible alliance ahead of the upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra.

The Dahi Handi festival, which celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, featured young men and women forming human pyramids to break suspended pots of curd. The celebrations in Mumbai and nearby areas were marked by political symbolism, with rival factions of Shiv Sena and MNS organizing events to engage Marathi voters.
