Hyderabad News: In Hyderabad, the CEO of Omega Hospital, Dr Namrata Chigurupati, was arrested on Friday for allegedly purchasing cocaine from a supplier linked to a drug network in Mumbai. The arrest was made by the Raidurgam police near her residence in Shaikpet.

Acting on a tip-off and using technical surveillance, the police intercepted a drug deal involving Dr Namrata and a delivery person named Balakrishna. Officials confirmed that she had placed an order for cocaine worth Rs 5 lakh through WhatsApp and transferred the amount online to the supplier, identified as Vansh Dhakkar from Mumbai. Balakrishna, who was delivering the drugs on behalf of Dhakkar, was caught red-handed while handing over the contraband.

According to the police, a sample of the seized drug was sent to the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for verification. An investigation is ongoing to track down another individual, believed to be a local drug peddler, who is also involved in the network.

Sources revealed that during questioning, Dr Namrata confessed to spending around ₹70 lakh on drugs over a period of time. Cases have been registered against both accused under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Authorities are now expanding the investigation to uncover more links in the drug supply chain.
