Hyderabad News: The Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) officials on Saturday conducted demolitions on government land in Bhikshapati Nagar. The demolitions were conducted on a 36-acre parcel of government land near the RTA office. Ahead of the much-anticipated action, the authority deployed heavy police protection and set up barricades two kilometers away to restrict access for local residents. Earlier last month, the officials stated that strong action will be taken against the encroachment on the government lands.
The locals staged a protest against the action, as several of them have been residing in the area for the past several decades. While the authority established temporary shelters for the affected people, it also placed fences around the full area, labeling it as government land. The Telangana government had expressed concern over the encroachment on the government lands, especially in the urban regions.
While providing details, the officials stated that the estimated value of the land in Bhikshapati Nagar is about Rs 3,600 crore. The local farmers stated that while the action was being conducted legally, they should get fair compensation, as they have been farming here for decades. They also pointed out that no prior notice was served before such strong actions, leaving them surprised.
In separate news, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday stated that several districts of Telangana are likely to witness light to heavy rainfall for the next few days. The weather department stated that along with heavy rainfall, several districts are also expected to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 50 to 60 kmph.
The authority has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings for the next few days to avoid any inconveniences. Earlier last month, severe rainfall led to waterlogging in various key areas of Hyderabad, leading to slow vehicular movements. The authority also stated that encroachment is one of the main reasons behind the waterlogging of these regions.
