US Firm Fires Indian Employees: In an unethical, but not new practice, a US firm fired its Indian employees working remotely over a 4-minute Zoom call, as revealed employee’s Reddit post. Explaining how his US-based company laid him off without any prior notice or giving him time to mentally prepare. His post has gained a lot of attention online.
In the post, the victim explained that, as per his usual routine, he woke up at 8:30 and logged in at 9 to follow his work-from-home schedule. He attended the meeting at 11 am as he saw a meeting was scheduled.
COO Fires Employees Over Zoom Call
It was a mandatory meeting of the company’s COO with all Indian employees working remotely. As soon as the company’s COO joined the meeting, he turned off everyone’s cameras and microphone and announced the administration’s decision to fire almost all the Indian employees. He further explained that the layoff had nothing to do with the performance of employees, but it was caused by the internal restructuring.
Followed the information about the email to those who have been asked to leave, and the COO left the meeting without answering any questions. The Reddit user expressed that he was shaken by the sudden decision.
The employee, who was suddenly fired, wrote on Reddit that there was no advance notice, no time to mentally prepare. They said October’s salary would be paid at the end of the month, and any unused leave would be encashed. But none of this makes up for what I’m feeling right now. This is the first time I’ve ever been laid off, and honestly, it feels terrible.”
The post articulating the arbitrary action by the company went viral in no time, receiving a mix of responses ranging from emotional support to practical help. Some encouraged the Redditor while others shared job leads.
One user wrote, “Sorry to hear this, man. I saw in your earlier comments that you’re from the media industry. If you’re open to financial services, I can refer you. It may not be much, but it could help.”
A few others insisted on naming the company, suspecting that the post was fake. The post author replies to the comments suggesting ‘naming-shaming’ the company, saying, “If you’re being rude or calling this post fake just because I didn’t reveal the company’s name, I won’t interact with you. Today has already been hell for me. For those who asked politely, I’ve mentioned the company in replies. Please learn how to speak respectfully.”
