Hyderabad Metro: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) announced the route map for the second phase of the metro expansion on Sunday, January 19. This new route will connect Miyapur to Patancheru, covering a distance of 13.4 km and featuring ten proposed stations, including Patancheru, Miyapur, Alwyn X Road, Madinaguda, Chanda Nagar, Jyoti Nagar, BHEL, RC Puram and Beeramguda. However, these station names are tentative and may be subject to change.

This expansion aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the city and enhance connectivity for residents. The metro’s reach will extend from Patancheru to Hayathnagar, bringing the total coverage to approximately 50 km.

Previously, HMRL had revealed another segment of the second phase, which will link LB Nagar to Hayath Nagar. This route will span 7.1 km and include six metro stations. The Hayath Nagar route is an extension of the existing metro network, which already comprises the Miyapur-Patancheru line and Corridor I, connecting Miyapur to LB Nagar over a distance of 29 km. With the addition of the Hayath Nagar line, the total connected distance will reach around 50 km, stretching from Patancheru in the northwest to Hayath Nagar in the southeast.

The completion date for this project has not yet been announced. The Telangana government has sanctioned a total budget of Rs 24,269 crores for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro project. This investment will cover five new metro corridors: Nagole to Shamshabad RGIA Airport (36.8 km), Raidurg to Kokapet (11.6 km), MGBS to Chandrayangutta old city corridor (7.5 km), Miyapur to Patancheru (13.4 km), and LB Nagar to Hayath Nagar (7.1 km).

Additionally, plans are underway for a corridor between Shamshabad RGIA Airport and a Skill University in Fourth City, which will span 40 km. The alignment and cost estimation for this corridor are currently being finalised, with field surveys in progress.
