Hyderabad Metro Update: The Telangana ministers on Thursday criticised the central government for not giving clearance to the Hyderabad Metro Phase II project even after submitting the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Telangana Industries and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu claimed that the step from the BJP-led central government is "political discrimination", adding that the project did not get green signal even after Hyderabad's significant contribution to the nation's economy. Earlier, after meeting Union Minister Manohar Lal, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had stated that the project will provide convenience to the commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion.

“It is political discrimination. Though Hyderabad contributes to the national economy significantly and after fulfilling all administrative requirement, our proposals were pushed back,” Sridhar Babu stated. Revanth Reddy had claimed that while the previous government had not prepared a plan for the expansion, the current government has submitted a DPR for the project.

“The Hyderabad Metro Phase-II has been meticulously planned to meet the city’s long-term transit needs. The previous government did not pursue any expansion for 10 years, and we are now submitting comprehensive proposals to bridge that gap,” Reddy told reporters.

Apart from this, BRS working president KT Rama Rao also slammed the BJP for not giving clearance to the much-awaited project. “Two ministers in the Union government, eight BJP MPs from Telangana. What are they doing and who are they working for? Bullet trains of 2 lakhs crores to Gujarat, not even a Metro project for Hyderabad in Telangana?” Rama Rao asked in a post on X.
