Hyderabad News: A young doctor from Andhra Pradesh allegedly died by suicide in Hyderabad after her J-1 visa application to the United States was rejected. The deceased, identified as Dr Rohini from Guntur district, had completed her medical degree in Russia and hoped to pursue further studies and residency in the US.

According to a Siasat.com report, she had spent nearly a year preparing for her move and had made the required arrangements for training and practice abroad. However, her visa was recently denied, which reportedly left her distressed.

Police said she died after consuming an overdose of sleeping tablets. A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.

A J-1 visa is issued to individuals participating in approved educational, cultural or professional exchange programmes in the United States. It is not a work visa, though limited work is permitted as part of such programmes.

In separate news, Maharashtra Minister Pankaja Munde’s personal assistant’s wife was found dead at her home in central Mumbai, with police treating the case as a suspected suicide linked to domestic issues. The woman, identified as Dr Gauri Palve, was discovered hanging at her Worli residence on Saturday evening.

Gauri, who worked in the dental department of KEM Hospital, had married Anant Garje, Munde’s personal assistant in February this year.

Her family has accused Garje of harassment and mistreatment, claiming she had been facing severe mental and emotional distress due to his behaviour. They have urged the police to conduct a detailed inquiry into the circumstances leading to her death.

Police said initial findings suggest domestic conflict may have played a role. An accidental death report has been filed, and officers are examining all angles as the investigation continues.
