Hyderabad News: Hyderabad is expected to see a major upgrade in its rail network, with South Central Railway (SCR) preparing to develop three large terminals at Nagalapalli, Jukal and Dabilpur. The new terminals are part of a long-term plan to ease congestion at the city’s existing stations and support rising passenger traffic over the next five decades.
Nagalapalli To Become India’s Third-Largest Terminal
According to a Times Of India report, among the proposals, the Nagalapalli terminal stands out. Once completed, it will become the third-largest railway station in the country, after Howrah and Sealdah. Located between Lingampalli and Vikarabad along the Outer Ring Road, the terminal will have 20 platform lines, 14 pit lines and 24 stabling lines. It will also support trains heading towards Maharashtra and Karnataka, including services to Mumbai, Pune, Bidar, Hubballi and Belagavi.

SCR officials said the new stations are being planned to handle the city’s rail needs for the next 50 years. The TOI report cited a senior official as explaining that, “These stations are being designed for the next 50 years of Hyderabad’s expansion. With triple and quadruple lines coming up on key routes, these new terminals will greatly ease congestion and allow us to run many more long-distance as well as suburban services, including additional MMTS trains.”
Jukal And Dabilpur Terminals To Handle Southern And Northern Routes
On the southern side of the city, the Jukal terminal near Umdanagar will come up with 18 platform lines, 12 pit lines, and 20 stabling lines. Once developed, it is expected to be among the top five largest terminals in India. In the north, the Dabilpur terminal near Manoharabad will be set up on 250 acres and cater to trains moving towards Nizamabad, Nanded, and Shirdi.
The Region is already seeing relief through the newly expanded Charlapalli terminal, which can take on more load with further upgrades.
RRR Project To Connect Key Districts Across 392–420 km
These terminals will be important parts of the Regional Ring Rail (RRR) project, estimated to cost around Rs 26,000 crore. The sanctioned line is planned for 392–420 km, connecting key districts such as Vikarabad, Medak, Siddipet, Kamareddy, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nalgonda, and Ranga Reddy. Officials said this link will reduce pressure on Secunderabad by integrating existing routes with the new corridors.
