Hyderabad Police launched a special enforcement initiative dubbed "ROPE" (Removal of Obstructive Parking and Encroachments) to ease traffic congestion and reclaim pedestrian spaces in the city. The drive, spearheaded by Hyderabad Traffic Police was led by Police Commissioner CV Anand and aims to clear illegal encroachments from footpaths and roadways in key city areas.
The operation started on Tuesday along a stretch from Film Nagar to Majestic Garden in Tolichowki, targeting illegal structures that obstruct footpaths. Commissioner Anand personally oversaw the removal of unauthorised encroachments and towed away illegally parked vehicles. He highlighted that some shopkeepers lease footpaths for profit, exacerbating the city’s traffic woes.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police aided by earth movers and trucks, dismantled illegal structures and removed obstructions, ensuring smoother traffic flow. Commissioner Anand highlighted the need for public cooperation, urging citizens and public representatives to understand the impact of encroachments on traffic safety and flow.
''It’s crucial for all stakeholders to collaborate to improve traffic conditions and safeguard pedestrians,'' he stated. He also issued a stern warning against illegal parking, stating that obstructively parked vehicles would either be towed or clamped.
Additionally, as part of the crackdown, police confiscated over 1,000 illegal sirens and 500 multi-tone horns last month. The drive targets enhancing urban accessibility and safety amid Hyderabad’s growing population.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy instructed officials to limit the use of the green channel for his convoy and restricted siren usage to police patrolling vehicles, reinforcing the government’s commitment to streamlined traffic management.
