Thousands of individuals gather at Nampally’s Exhibition Grounds in Telangana on Saturday to receive the ‘miraculous’ fish prasadam. The prasadam, which consists of a live murrel fish filled with a herbal paste, is believed to cure respiratory diseases, including Asthma. People across India and some from abroad also convened in the neighbourhood of Hyderabad to get rid of their ailments.
The prasadam distribution ceremony was carried out by the Bathini family, who have been administering the prasadam for decades, were at the forefront, with B Amarnath Goud announcing the administration of prasadam on Mrigasira Karti day, expecting around seven lakh attendees.
Participants who reached the Nampally’s Exhibition Ground expressed their positive experiences and continued faith in the prasadam’s healing properties. The event’s popularity has grown, with the organisers anticipating a higher turnout than the two lakh individuals served in 2023, post-Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, several politicians also attended the event and consumed prasadam.

Supported by various government departments, the event was inaugurated by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. To manage the distribution, the State Fisheries Department set up 16 tokens and 35 fish counters, monitored by 65 employees. The prasadam, offered free to asthma patients, saw the Bathini family prepare approximately 500 kg for this year’s event. The counters operated in shifts, with fish seeds priced at Rs 40 each.
