Hyderabad News: Hyderabad is preparing to host football legend Lionel Messi next month as part of the highly awaited ‘GOAT Tour to India 2025’. The visit was officially confirmed following a meeting between Messi’s India tour organisers and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at his Jubilee Hills residence earlier this week. During the meeting, the Chief Minister unveiled the official tour poster and received a signed football from Messi’s team, signalling the start of the event.

Sharing the news on X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said, “Telangana welcomes Lionel Messi! The GOAT arrives in Hyderabad this December as part of the ‘Telangana Rising 2047’ vision.” Initially, a friendly football match involving Argentina was planned in Kochi, but the venue was changed due to unforeseen reasons, making Hyderabad a stop on the tour.

Preparations are in full swing in Hyderabad, with local sports bodies and football academies organising several events to celebrate Messi’s arrival. These include friendly matches, fan marches and community engagement programmes. The state government is also strengthening security measures in anticipation of large crowds eager to catch a glimpse of the football superstar.

Telangana Rising 2047

Messi’s visit perfectly aligns with Telangana’s ambitious ‘Telangana Rising 2047’ project, which aims to establish the state as a hub for innovation, sports and investment. Officials are expected to invite Messi to become a global ambassador for this initiative, a move likely to elevate Telangana’s international stature and inspire young sports enthusiasts across the region.

‘GOAT Tour’ To Cover Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai And Delhi

Hyderabad was not initially on Messi’s India tour list. The city was included after a planned friendly match in Kochi was cancelled, ensuring that football fans in southern India get to see the icon in person. With Hyderabad’s inclusion, the ‘GOAT Tour’ will cover four major cities: Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi. Notably, Ahmedabad was removed from the itinerary.
