Hyderabad News: Hyderabad traffic police have intensified enforcement against motorists using mobile phones while driving, booking 2,345 cases in just two days as part of a citywide special drive. Officials said the campaign aims to curb one of the most common causes of road accidents, distracted driving.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis said that the latest drive was carried out on Monday and Tuesday and the crackdown will continue in the coming weeks. From January 1 to October 12, 2025, traffic police registered a total of 80,555 cases for mobile phone use while driving or riding across Hyderabad.
Hyderabad Traffic Police Warn of Strict Action Against Repeat Offenders
“The use of mobile phones while driving puts not only the driver’s life at risk but also endangers others on the road. Despite repeated warnings, many motorists continue to engage in this unsafe practice,” Davis said. He warned that violators would face strict legal action, including being forwarded to court for penalties.
He urged citizens to cooperate by avoiding mobile phone use on the road and said, “Remember, no call is more important than a life.”
Police studies indicate that mobile phone use distracts drivers, reduces reaction time and significantly increases the risk of collisions. In view of rising violations, special enforcement teams have been deployed at key junctions and high-traffic corridors across the city.
Citizens Urged To Report Violations Via Helpline And Social Media
The Hyderabad police also appealed to vigilant citizens to report traffic violations through official social media channels, Facebook, X (Twitter) or via the Traffic Helpline (9010203626) and e-Challan helpdesk (8712661690).
In a separate initiative to promote road safety, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police V. C. Sajjanar launched the #SafeRideChallenge on Monday. The campaign encourages riders and drivers to share photos or short videos before starting their journey, showing themselves wearing helmets or fastening seat belts, and to tag three friends or family members to do the same.
The initiative aims to make road safety awareness viral on social media, particularly among young commuters, and promote responsible driving behaviour across the city.
