Hyderabad News: In a move to ensure the smooth celebration of the Mahankali Bonalu festivities in Hyderabad, the office of the prohibition and excise inspector, Charminar, has announced a temporary ban on the sale of toddy, wine and alcohol in bars (excluding those in star hotels and registered clubs) across the city.

The closure will be effective from 6 am on July 28 (Sunday) to 6 am on July 29 (Monday) in the south-east and south-west zones of Hyderabad. Additionally, all such establishments will remain shut from 6 am on July 28 to 6 am on July 30 in the city's South zone.

This decision has been taken in connection with the upcoming Mahankali Bonalu festivities, a cultural event celebrated in the region, to maintain order and ensure the safety of the participants.

In a separate incident, a student from Hyderabad is currently fighting for his life in a hospital in Detroit, Michigan, after a road accident. Mohammed Amir Ahmed, 35, was crossing the road on July 20 when he was hit by a speeding car, resulting in serious injuries.

Amir, who had travelled to the United States in 2022 to pursue a Master's in Business Administration at Trine University in Detroit, is now in critical condition, admitted to the University of Chicago Hospital. He has suffered multiple fractures and his family has urgently appealed to the US embassy in Hyderabad to grant an emergency visa to allow them to travel to the US and be by his side.

Amir's brother, Mohammed Zaker Ahmed, a resident of Moula Ali in Hyderabad, has reached out to the External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, requesting the Consulate General of India in Chicago to visit Amir in the hospital and provide assistance.
