The new emblem of Telangana is unlikely to feature the iconic Charminar and Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, symbols that BRS claimed are synonymous with Hyderabad and Telangana, respectively. Instead, the focus will be on representing the spirit of Telangana’s people, highlighting their struggles, sacrifices and unwavering fight against oppression, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy recently conveyed to artist Rudra Rajesham.
Revanth Reddy, along with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and designer Rajesham, have come up with the emblem’s design. Additionally, they have finalised the state song, “Jaya Jayahe Telangana,” penned by Ande Sri. This anthem will exist in two versions: a concise two-and-a-half-minute rendition and a more elaborate 13-minute version. Renowned Oscar winner MM Keeravani is composing the music for this song.
The Congress-led government, which assumed power on December 7, 2023, has already initiated changes. The forthcoming emblem will reportedly replace the circular seal adopted by the previous BRS government, which prominently featured the Kakatiya Kala Thoranam and Charminar.

The old emblem bore inscriptions in multiple languages, including Telugu, English, Urdu and Sanskrit. However, the new emblem aims to shed any monarchical connotations, aligning with the spirit of Telangana’s struggle against dictatorial rule, the Congress-led Telangana government claimed.
Now, as part of the decennial celebrations marking Telangana’s statehood formation, the new emblem and the state song will be unveiled on June 2. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi will attend the occasion as the chief guest in Secunderabad.
Meanwhile, the move to alter the emblem has sparked controversy. The Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) opposed any removal of Telangana’s cultural and heritage symbols, specifically, Charminar and Kakatiya Thoranam from the emblem. BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed strong dissent, emphasising that these iconic landmarks are synonymous with Hyderabad and Telangana.

Despite facing denial of permission for a protest at Charminar, KTR addressed the issue during an impromptu press meet. ''These changes are an insult to the people of Hyderabad and the people of the state and they will oppose the move. We condemn the government decision on emblem changes,'' he said while addressing the media on Thursday.
