Telangana Earthquake: A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Mulugu district in Telangana on Wednesday morning, sending tremors across Hyderabad and parts of Andhra Pradesh. The National Center for Seismology reported that the quake occurred at 7:27 AM, causing panic among residents.

The tremors were felt widely in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with reports indicating that residents experienced shaking in various locations. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.

Experts are advising the public to remain vigilant during seismic events and to avoid crowded or unsafe buildings. The National Center for Seismology posted details of the quake on X, stating: “EQ of M: 5.3, On: 04/12/2024 07:27:02 IST, Lat: 18.44 N, Long: 80.24 E, Depth: 40 Km, Location: Mulugu, Telangana.”

This earthquake is notable as Telangana rarely experiences significant seismic activity, making it a rare occurrence for the region. A user on X, known as Telangana Weatherman, wrote, “For the first time in the last 20 years, one of the strongest earthquakes occurred in Telangana with a magnitude of 5.3 at Mulugu as the epicentre.” He added that the tremors were felt throughout the state, including in Hyderabad.

In addition to Telangana, light tremors were also reported in Maharashtra's Nagpur and Gadchiroli districts. Local residents confirmed feeling the shaking, according to PTI, citing sources from the India Meteorological Department.

In a separate incident, a 2.9-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Karbi Anglong, Assam, during the early hours of November 30, at a depth of 25 km.
