Telangana Earthquake: Telangana's Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district was hit by a mild earthquake of magnitude 3.8 in the late hours of Monday. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) stated that the tremors were felt in the nearby districts too, adding that the epicenter of the earthquake was located at latitude 19.21°N and longitude 79.41°E, with a depth of 10 kilometers. However, it assured that there are no immediate reports of damage.
Earlier on Monday, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan for the second time within a week. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) stated that the earthquake occurred at 16:05 IST, adding that the tremors were felt across several regions of northern Pakistan. However, they clarified that there have been no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage.
According to the NCS, the earthquake originated at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres, making it more likely to be felt on the surface and potentially followed by aftershocks. The coordinates of the quake were given as latitude 36.60°N and longitude 72.89°E, placing the epicentre near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region.
Earlier, in a separate post on X (formerly Twitter), the NCS noted a similar seismic event in Afghanistan, stating: “EQ of M: 4.2, On: 05/05/2025 12:35:23 IST, Lat: 36.60 N, Long: 71.91 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Afghanistan.” Given the close proximity of these two reported locations, experts suggest that this could be a single event impacting both countries or two closely timed tremors within the same seismic zone.

This is the second earthquake to hit Pakistan in less than seven days, raising concerns about increased seismic activity in the region. Both quakes have been classified as moderate, shallow earthquakes. This magnitude can be unsettling for residents, especially in densely populated or poorly constructed urban areas.
