The Telangana High Court issued an order on Tuesday instructing the state government to install at least one sanitary napkin dispensing machine in every government-run junior college across Telangana. The bench consisting of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Anil Kumar Jukanthi also asked the state government to file a compliance report within the next three months.

The directions by the Telangana HC came after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that emerged from protests at Government Junior College, Saroornagar. Initially, the high court was addressing the case related to the Saroornagar College, but the bench extended the order to cover all government junior colleges in the state.

The high court directed the Telangana government to take the required measures in order to implement the court's instructions with urgency. Chief Justice Alok Aradhe criticised the state government pleaders for not adhering to the High Court’s previous orders, citing changes in the government as reasons for delays.

"Construction of toilets in government junior colleges has nothing to do with the change in government. This is not a policy decision. How much time will it take to construct toilets? Do you require 20 years to build a toilet?," Chief Justice Alok Aradhe said, as quoted by FPJ.

He also informed the court that the government has also allocated Rs 27.55 crore for the construction of 599 toilet blocks in 300 more government junior colleges across the state.
