Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Tuesday said 51 school buildings were destroyed and 1,057 were partially damaged due to heavy rains in the monsoon season this year. Rohit Thakur stated that the state government incurred a loss of about Rs 69.27 due to the damage to schools. 

The education minister while replying to a question by BJP MLA Vinod Kumar said that the school buildings that were destroyed due to heavy rain would be reconstructed on priority. He added that the Education Department also sought additional funds to reopen this school.

Rohit Thakur replying to the questions during the winter season of the Himachal Pradesh legislative assembly said that the partially damaged buildings would be first surveyed and then revamped in a phased manner.

The Leader of the Opposition, Jairam Thakur criticised the Congress government and asked them to take immediate action to resolve the issue. The BJP MLA expressed concerns over the safety of students in damaged school buildings. He urged the government to prioritise relocating students to alternative safe locations while ensuring comprehensive and speedy repairs.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Rohit Thakur said the Congress government in the state will renovate these unsafe buildings on priority as conducting classes in these buildings can pose a risk to the lives of 19,101 students who are studying in these government-run schools.
