The newly-formed Telangana government led by Congress' Revanth Reddy has decided to change the abbreviation of the state from TS to TG, which will indicate the name of the state. The abbreviation will be changed on the number plates of vehicles, registered under the state. The key decision was taken during the Telangana Cabinet meeting on Sunday. The cabinet also decided to convene the budget session of the Legislative Assembly on February 8 and to announce two more poll 'guarantees' of ruling Congress.
Apart from the state's abbreviation, the Telangana cabinet also decided to change the state's official symbol in a way that it "reflects the people without any trace of monarchy". The Cabinet also decided to adopt 'Jaya Jaya He Telangana', a popular song written by poet Ande Sri, as the official song. Also, the symbolic mother goddess of the state, Telangana Talli, will be reimagined in a new look.
The Congress government has accused the previous BRS regime, led by K Chandrashekhar Rao, of using TS as a state abbreviation to "match it with their party name, Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS). The party, however, was renamed to Bharat Rashtriya Samiti (BRS), to reflect KCR's national aspirations.
Telangana IT Minister Sridhar Babu said the implementation of two more 'guarantees' would be announced by the CM on the floor of the house during the Assembly session. Out of the six poll 'guarantees' announced by the Congress, the government had earlier initiated implementation of two promises -- free travel in state-run RTC buses for women and the health scheme of Rs 10 lakh for the poor.
The Cabinet also approved the government's decision to conduct a 'caste census' in the state which was announced earlier. The Cabinet also decided to revive the state-run Nizam Sugars Factory and to establish Kodangal Area Development Authority. Kodangal is the Assembly constituency represented by CM Revanth Reddy.
Both Congress and BRS are at loggerheads in the state, with both parties accusing each other of letting down the interests of the state and the farmers. Slamming the previous BRS government in the state, CM Revanth Reddy on Sunday said that Telangana suffered more damage in the utilisation of Krishna river water during the BRS regime than it did during undivided Andhra Pradesh as the previous government failed to safeguard the state's interests.

Reddy asked the former CM KCR to debate, especially on issues of irrigation, during the coming Assembly session. Responding to Revanth Reddy's allegations, party MLA T Harish Rao claimed the BRS government did not hand over the projects to KRMB. Rao also stated his party is ready for a debate on irrigation issues in the Assembly.
