Hyderabad News: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rains across Telangana over the next three days. The forecast not only includes rainfall but also thunderstorms, lightning and squalls on September 23, 24 and 25.
Given the anticipated severe weather, the IMD has declared a yellow alert for several districts. In Hyderabad, cloudy conditions are expected to persist until September 25, with the possibility of light to moderate rains or thundershowers continuing through Wednesday.

During the current southwest monsoon season, Telangana has received an average rainfall of 919 mm, significantly above the normal of 703.6 mm, representing a 31 per cent increase. Hyderabad itself has recorded 780.4 mm of rainfall, compared to the normal of 575.5 mm, marking a 36 percent deviation. Notably, Nampally has seen even higher levels, with 920.6 mm of rain against a normal of 570.8 mm—an impressive 61 percent increase.
Yesterday, heavy rainfall affected various parts of Telangana, with Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district receiving the highest at 103.3 mm. Golconda in Hyderabad recorded significant rainfall as well, with 91.3 mm reported.
As the IMD predicts continued rain for the next few days, total rainfall for this southwest monsoon season is expected to rise further.
In a related announcement, residents of Hyderabad should prepare for 24-hour water cuts on Monday, September 23, due to maintenance work by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board. Water supply disruptions will begin at 6 AM and will affect several areas.
Repair works will take place on a 1200mm diameter gravity main pipeline between Prashasan Nagar and Ayyappa Society, which is crucial for supplying drinking water to the city through the Krishna Phase 3 project. Areas likely to be impacted include Hakimpet, Golconda, Doyens Colony, Tolichowki, Langer Houz, Shaikpet, Film Nagar, Madhapur, Jubilee Hills, Thatti Khana, Kondapur and Gachibowli.
