The nation is significantly dependent on its fossil fuels, with a notable lack of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Iran's climate policies are rated as extremely poor, with minimal investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Unlike other top nations, Iran has not made bold climate commitments or moved decisively to shift from oil and gas.

The nation is developing large-scale green energy schemes with the ambition to build more clean power. However, challenges like overdependence on coal and the strong climate policies in areas like transport and housing are also needed. Despite these challenges, efforts in India are well recognised worldwide, and it remains a global power among developing nations in action towards the climate.
