Golgaapa Prices: Pani Puri is called Golgappa in Delhi and Puchka in Kolkata and is among India's most-loved street foods. It is crunchy, empty puri stuffed with tangy tamarind water and fiery mashed potatoes, which delights millions nationwide. Although the general idea is the same, the name, taste, and cost of Golgappa can differ significantly by region. Let’s take a closer look at the state-wise prices of this popular street food from north to east India.
List Of State-Wise Golgappa Prices In India:
Delhi and NCR, where the Golgappa is a common snack, generally have prices averaging between Rs 50 and Rs 80 per plate. A plate typically contains 5 to 10 pieces. Golgappas are sold in crowded markets or food complexes like Kamla Nagar by vendors with little fusion, like flavoured water, like mint, tamarind, or raw mango. The vibrant street food culture here is all about affordable and premium-priced options with combo plates reaching upwards of Rs 140 to even some cases more than 200. In high-end places, the price of Golgappa’s might be higher. Additionally, Delhi’s Golgappa is known for its semolina-based puri, which are light yet crunchy.
Heading east to Kolkata, the treat is called Puchka and is known for its unique tangy tamarind water, sometimes flavoured with Gondhoraj lime. A plate of 6 puchkas may cost as little as Rs 20 to Rs 60 on the streets. The Kolkata Puchka are filled with hot mashed potato filling and hot tamarind water. Here, puchkas are served in leaf cups, and vendors are very quick to serve them, one after another.
In the North Indian states of Haryana and Punjab, prices are somewhat the same as in Delhi, ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 80. Here also, people have to Golgappa options made of flour or semolina puris and a combination of sweet and spicy flavoured water. On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh's cities like Lucknow and Varanasi have lower rates, usually between Rs 20 and Rs 60 per plate, depending on the area and reputation of the seller.

In Western India, states like Gujarat and the famous Mumbai-Pune region have a higher price range of Rs 30 to Rs 70. People call it Panipuri here. Panipuris consist of sweet and sour water variations. The crowded street scenes in Mumbai are famous for 10 pieces of panipuri for Rs 50 to Rs 70 as standard, while some high-end restaurants provide premium ones with flavoured water of ethnic variety or extra fillings at costly prices.
In states of Madhya Pradesh and eastern states like Odisha and Chhattisgarh, the rates are relatively more affordable, ranging from Rs 20 to Rs 50 per plate. Simple whole wheat puris with hot potato filling and traditional tamarind water are the street stall favourites in these areas. Interestingly, the pani puri business is also transforming with new-age business models.
