Aadhaar Biometric Update Process: Your Aadhaar card is one of the most important identity documents in India. So, keeping the details correct in it is very necessary. From government benefits to opening a bank account, using it for phone registration, joining school or even boarding a flight - you’ll likely need this ID. So staying up to date with changes like fingerprints, eye scans, or photos makes sense if the system doesn’t recognise you anymore. These updates become more crucial over time because bodies change; that’s why kids must update theirs at age five and once more at fifteen.

Sometimes, fingerprints can weaken or fail to scan - due to age, injury, or heavy physical labour. When that happens, people can quickly fix it by visiting an Aadhaar centre anywhere in the country. It’s a smooth step-by-step procedure, done in no time at all.

Here is a clear and easy step-by-step guide to help you understand how to update your Aadhaar biometrics smoothly.

How to Update Biometrics on Your Aadhaar Card: Step-by-Step Guide

1. Visit Your Nearest Aadhaar Enrollment/Update Centre

Find the closest authorised updating centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The location is listed on the official UIDAI website.

2. Carry Your Aadhaar Card

Bring your original Aadhaar number or card. Biometric updates usually don't require any extra paperwork.

3. Fill Out the Aadhaar Update/Correction Form

Mention your Aadhaar number and select "Biometric Update." Send the form to the centre's operator.

4. Biometric Verification Process

The operator will update the following: Fingerprint Scan, Iris Scan and Photograph

Make sure:

a) You place your fingers properly on the scanner.
b) Keep your eyes still during the iris scan.
c) Sit straight for the photograph.

5. Pay the Required Fee

Biometric upgrades come with a small price, typically about ₹125.

6. Receive the Acknowledgement Slip

You will receive an Update Request Number (URN) to your Aadhar-linked phone number. Use this URN to monitor your update status on the UIDAI website.

7. Check Status Online

Go to the UIDAI website. Enter your URN to check if your biometrics have been updated or not.

8. Download Updated Aadhaar

Once approved, download the revised e-Aadhaar from the UIDAI website. Another option is to get a printed Aadhaar letter.

Government Waives Charges for Children’s Biometric Update Aged 7 to 15 years

The government has waived biometric charges for children aged 7 to 15, which means they won't have to pay any fee for a biometric update, and this has been effective from October 1, 2025. Since young ones' fingerprints and eye patterns change over time, this process helps keep Aadhaar info up to date - so there are fewer issues later on.
