Rules Of IPL 2025: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has introduced a set of rules to enhance gameplay and sports spirit among the audience and players. The ongoing IPL 2025, which launched on March 22, 2025, cover numerous rules related to batting, bowling, and fielding as the T20 format of cricket continues to thrive. With significant reforms like removing the saliva ban and the upgrading of DRS facilities, these rules are elevating the standard of the game.

List Of Major Rules Of IPL 2025:

1. Elimination of the Saliva Ban

One of the most significant changes in the rules of IPL 2025 is the removal of the saliva ban. The rule was first introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to minimize health dangers. However, bowlers can now use saliva to polish the ball, which will likely bring back the ability to generate swing and reverse swing that had fallen off in previous seasons.

2. Extension Of Impact Player Rule

The Impact Player rule allows teams to interchange one player during a match, and this rule will continue until 2027. This rule has provided an opportunity for uncapped players to play in matches.

3. Introduction Of Two Balls For Night Matches

To improve playing standards, IPL 2025 will witness the use of two balls during night matches, as this rule will ensure that the quality of the ball is preserved during the match and will not be subject to excessive use that may compromise performance.

4. Extension Of Decision Review System (DRS)

The DRS will feature appeals for height wides and sidelines off-stump. This addition was introduced to enhance umpiring accuracy with slow technology like Hawk-Eye and ball-tracking systems. This rule will also crucially help officials to make appropriate decisions in slow-reflex games.

5. No Bans For Slow Over Rates

To reduce pressure on captains, IPL 2025 will not suspend captains for slow over rates. However, teams can be fined and penalties will still be there.

6. Batting Rules

Batting rules remain largely the same, but with an emphasis on fair play and sportsmanship, here’s a set of rules that a batter needs to follow:

- Players must abide by bat specification rules.

- Any changes that can give a player an unfair advantage are prohibited.

- Protection wear is mandatory to promote players' protection while playing.

7. Bowling Regulations

There are a few updates in bowling regulations. Check out:

- Bowlers are allowed to use their saliva for the creasing of their balls.

- There are specific regulations for bowlers on how they should release their balls without keeping fair play at stakes.

- Bowlers need to restrict themselves from activities that can be related to ball tampering or unfair play.

Fielding Regulation

- Fielders have to remain in proper positions and are not allowed to intrude into restricted areas near the wicket.

- The rule of the forced use of helmets by fielders set near the batter has become more rigid than ever.

- Teams are also encouraged to maintain sportsmanship and courtesy towards other sides and umpires.
