Top 10 Highest Earthquake-Prone Countries In The World:  Earthquakes are some of the worst natural disasters, causing immense loss of life and property. Nepal and Tibet have recently been the epicenter of one such devastating earthquake with ricter scale of 7.1 on 7 January 2025 that also impacted northern India. Just a few days after the New Year celebration, a major earthquake wrought havoc and devastation on human life.

The natural disaster reminds us of the vulnerability of many regions to seismic actions. There are some countries that are located along tectonic plate boundaries and are particularly at high risk. Some of the most earthquake-prone nations are China, Indonesia, Iran and Japan. These are directly positioned along active fault lines or very close to the Pacific Ring of Fire, which cause often earthquakes here and enormous amounts of damage from time to time.

However, these most earthquake-prone countries also create knowledge about preparedness, disaster responses, and resilience of infrastructure. Japan is known for its advanced earthquake preparedness systems, other nations continue to struggle with mitigating the impacts of these natural disasters.

India and Nepal are earthquake-prone countries because they are located at the two major tectonic plates-the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate. These plates constantly push each other, so, when this energy is released, it causes earthquakes. Nepal, being close to the Himalayas, is especially vulnerable, as the mountains were formed by this tectonic activity. Similarly, northern and northeastern parts of India experience frequent tremors due to the same tectonic movements.
