Top Silver Producing States In India: India is one of the top consumers of silver in the world, using it for jewellery, coins, industrial use and religious purposes. According to Statista reports of leading silver-producing countries in 2023, India ranks number 11 in silver production with 23.8 million ounces, which means 743.75 tons annually. But do you know where this silver comes from within India? Several states in the country are rich in minerals and play a key role in silver production. Among them, Rajasthan stands out as the largest silver-producing state, contributing more than half of the country’s total silver output.
Other states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are also significant producers of silver. The majority of silver in India is recovered as a by-product of the extraction of other metals, such as copper, zinc, lead, and gold, rather than being mined directly. These sources include large mining regions like the Hutti Gold Mines in Karnataka and the Sindesar Khurd and Zawar in Rajasthan.

The production of silver in these states depends on the quantity of other metal ores and the capacity of refineries. Rajasthan is the state that produces the most silver in India, with an annual contribution of more than 43 tons. The Hindustan Zinc Limited-run Sindesar Khurd and Zawar mines in the Udaipur district, which provide the majority of the silver. These mines contribute significantly to India's total silver production and are abundant in both silver and zinc.
2. Andhra Pradesh
With an annual production of 9.2 to 11.5 tons, Andhra Pradesh ranks second in terms of silver production. Particularly in the Tummalapalle and Agnigundala regions, silver is primarily extracted as a by-product from copper and lead-zinc mines. Numerous minerals are abundant in these mining belts.
3. Telangana
Every year, Telangana contributes between 5-6 tons of silver. In places like Khanapur and the Singareni region, silver is mostly extracted as a byproduct of base metal mining. Exploration for minerals is increasing in the state.

4. Haryana

Haryana produces about 4 to 5 tons of silver, mostly as a secondary product from the lead-zinc processing units in Ambala and Hisar districts. Although not a traditional mining hub, the state is emerging in mineral refining.
5. Jharkhand
The annual production of silver in Jharkhand is between three and four tons, ranking it in 5th place. Because of their uranium and copper mines, the districts of Ranchi and Singhbhum are the primary sources of silver. As a by-product of processing metal, silver is produced in these mines.
6. Karnataka
Karnataka produces about 2 to 3 tons of silver every year. The Hutti Gold Mines in Raichur not only produce gold but also yield small amounts of silver as a secondary product. This makes Karnataka a notable contributor to silver production in southern India.

7. Madhya Pradesh
Every year, Madhya Pradesh contributes between two and three tons of silver. The primary source, where silver is recovered during the copper extraction process, is the Malanjkhand copper mines in the Balaghat district.
8. Gujarat
Gujarat produces between 1 to 2 tons of silver per year. In the regions of Vadodara and Jamnagar, small-scale silver extraction occurs as a byproduct of lead-zinc smelting and refinement.
