Friends Actor Matthew Perry died from the acute effects of ketamine, says the toxicology report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. The autopsy results released for 54-year-old actor revealed cause of death ketamine overdose. The method of intake remains unknown, and contributing factors included drowning, coronary artery disease, and the impact of buprenorphine used in treating opioid use disorder. The manner of death has been ruled as accidental.

Before his passing, Perry was reportedly undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for managing depression and anxiety. The toxicology report highlights that the elevated levels of ketamine in his post-mortem blood could lead to lethal effects, primarily from cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression. The toxicology report adds, "At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression."

Ketamine is often abused illegally for its numbing and hallucinogenic properties, sought after as a recreational drug. However, within medical settings, doctors can administer ketamine as an anesthetic. The report also revealed that Matthew Perry had drowned in 'the heated end of his pool,' though it was considered a secondary factor in his accidental death on October 28.
