The Conjuring: Last Rites was supposed to be the last installment in the horror series, as the title of the 2025 movie stated. With a franchise-best opening weekend gross of $83 million in the US and $194 million worldwide, Michael Chaves' fourth Conjuring movie has blown everyone away. Within three days of its premiere, the horror film in India has also surpassed the Rs 50 crore milestone. According to a recent source, the popular series is planning another prequel.

The Conjuring: Last Rites' makers revealed that it is the ninth and last installment in the beloved Conjuring Universe. The horror movie, which stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga included a case that led to Ed and Lorraine Warren's retirement. Many thought that The Conjuring: Last Rites couldn't be the final movie in the universe, even as it broke box office records. Turns out the studio has chosen to retract their assertion.

Conjuring Prequel In Works?

The producers of The Conjuring series, Warner Bros., are reportedly working on a follow-up prequel to Annabelle and The Nun, according to Puck News. James Wan, the director of the first two Conjuring movies, won't be making a comeback, though.

James Wan reportedly continued to produce the franchise, but he is currently involved in a settlement dispute with Warner Bros. The filmmaker wants to get paid more for producing the movies, but the company won't budge. Wan may therefore soon depart from the movie world completely. We have yet to receive an official word from the producers on a follow-up.

James Wan directed the original movie and its follow-up when the franchise debuted in 2013. Michael Chaves directed both The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) and The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025). The Conjuring: Last Rites has surpassed IT  to become the largest horror movie ever since its release. 

The Conjuring: Last Rites, which stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Mia Tomlinson, and Ben Hardy, tells the tale of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they look into the 1986 Smurl family haunting. This case proves to be one of their most difficult and unsettling investigations, and it is connected to a possessed mirror that has a connection to the Warrens and results in their last encounter with a strong demon. The Warren family's daily lives is also explored in the movie, including the rearing of their daughter and the difficulties they encounter in coping with the haunting.
