Spider-Man Brand New Day Update: The filming of Marvel's upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been halted for a week as lead star Tom Holland takes a break after suffering a concussion on set. Despite the production pause, casting for the project continues. According to reports, Marvel has cast Marvin Jones III in the role of crime boss Tombstone, a threat to Holland's Spider-Man in the film. Jones is no stranger to the menacing character Tombstone. He has voiced the character in Sony’s Oscar-winning animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and is set to return in the forthcoming threequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. His casting in Brand New Day doesn't come as a surprise to Marvel fans.

Marvin Jones III As Tombstone In Brand New Day

According to a source quoted by Deadline, Marvin Jones III is set to make a significant impact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the notorious New York crime boss, Tombstone, in the upcoming live-action film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This exciting casting news has sparked excitement to watch Tom Holland's Spider-Man face off against Jones's character. Marvin Jones is best known for playing supervillain Tobias Whale in The CW’s Black Lightning. Other notable credits include All American: Homecoming, The Equalizer and Halo Season 2 opposite Pablo Schreiber.

More About Tombstone Character

Tombstone, also known as Lonnie Lincoln, is a hulking African-American albino with filed teeth and near-indestructible skin. A ruthless crime boss, he is a recurring villain in the Spider-Man comics. The character first appeared in Web of Spider-Man #36 in March 1988, created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Alex Saviuk.

When Will Brand New Day Resume Filming?

Filming of Brand New Day is scheduled to resume on September 29. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, the film is still on track to meet its theatrical release date of July 31, 2026.

Spider-Man Brand New Day Cast

Besides Tom Holland, the upcoming live-action MCU will also feature Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas, though their roles haven’t yet been disclosed. Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ, and Mark Ruffalo is expected to return to his role as The Hulk.
