Stranger Things Animated Spinoff: Exciting news for Stranger Things fans — the beloved series is getting an animated version. Netflix is taking us back to Hawkins during the winter of 1985, bridging the gap between Seasons 2 and 3 of the original show. The series will feature an interesting spin-off with a mix of returning cast members and new characters. The streaming platform confirmed the animated spinoff, titled Stranger Things: Tales From '85, at the Annecy Film Festival.

The series is executive produced by Matt and Ross Duffer, Shawn Levy, and Dan Cohen, with Eric Robles serving as showrunner. At the Annecy Film Festival, Robles unveiled Stranger Things: Tales From '85, an animated spin-off that combines nostalgic charm with supernatural mystery, promising a thrilling adventure for families.

Robles also gave a first look at the series, revealing its inspiration from classic '80s Saturday morning cartoons like Masters of the Universe, Scooby-Doo, and The Real Ghostbusters.

Notably, the darker episodes of The Real Ghostbusters served as a guiding light for the show's tone. However, the final design took a unique turn, blending the CGI aesthetic of films like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Arcane with the eerie vibe of Goosebumps book covers.

Character designs were crafted by Meybis Ruiz Cruz, while creature designer Carlos Huante (Blade Runner 2049, Men in Black, Alien vs. Predator) brought terrifying new monsters to life, including pumpkin zombies and a toothy snow shark, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Stranger Things Animated Series Cast

The series will feature familiar characters alongside a new addition, Nikki, a tough, mohawk-sporting teenager, who joins forces to battle new monsters and solve a paranormal mystery threatening their town.

Stranger Things Animated Series Release

While Netflix hasn't announced an exact release date for the animated series, it confirmed it will arrive next year. Meanwhile, the fifth and final season of the live-action Stranger Things is set to premiere in three parts later this year: Part 1 on November 26, Part 2 on Christmas, and the series finale on New Year's Eve, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
