James Gunn‘s Superman smashed records upon its release on July 11, 2025. Following its massive success, Gunn announced the film's follow-up to the summer blockbuster, titled Man of Tomorrow, which is expected to begin filming in April 2026. This time, there's a major plot twist. Instead of solely spotlighting the Man of Steel/Clark Kent portrayed by David Corenswet, the movie will also focus on Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. Superman and Lex Luthor will join forces to face a bigger threat that no one saw coming, as revealed by Gunn himself. Find out what clues Gunn dropped about Man of Tomorrow.

Superman Follow-Up Man of Tomorrow Update

James Gunn recently appeared on The Howard Stern Show, where he gave a major update, his first after announcing the Superman sequel. He revealed, "It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat." He further added, "It’s more complicated than that but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I Just love the script so much.”

Earlier, during the premiere of Peacemaker season 2, Gunn teased what's ahead for his self-titled Superman Saga. He told The Hollywood Reporter, “I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga.’ The treatment is done, which means a very, very worked-out treatment. I’m working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.”

On September 3, Gunn anounced Man of Tomorrow on social media. To reveal the follow-up, he shared a comic book image of Superman standing beside Lex Luthor in his iconic Warsuit, a power-enhancing armour Lex creates to match Superman’s strength in the comics. At first, fans believed Lex and Superman would once again be adversaries but now it's clear that Lex will be using his Warsuit not to fight Superman but to fight alongside him against the enemy.
