Accountant 3: Director Gavin O'Connor came up with Accountant 2 starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal almost 9 years following its first release The Accountant in 2026. The film also stars Cynthia Addai-Robinson and J. K. Simmons. The action thriller was released in theatres on April 25, 2025. The audience missed the presence of actress Anna Kendrick, who played Affleck's love interest Dana in the first film. Now, she is expected to reprise her character in the potential third instalment of the film.
Accountant director Gavin O’Connor along with star Ben Affleck and screenwriter Bill Dubuque talked about the film's trilogy. In an interview with the New York Times, as quoted by Variety, O’Connor shared that Anna Kendrick is ready to return as Christian Wolff's love interest for a potential third movie. He said, "We (O'Conner and Bill Dubuque) have had some preliminary conversations. I am personally running from another puzzle movie, which we've done twice now. One thing we've talked about is the idea of bringing Anna Kendrick back. Maybe Christian can finally get the love that he deserves."
Ben Affleck also participated in this by saying, "We're hoping she still likes us." Adding to this, O'Connor stated, she is 100 per cent in for the movie. "Actually, Ben, she and I have been texting. She said she's a hundred percent in if we want," as quoted by Variety.
Why was Anna Kendrick Absent From Accountant 2?
The sequel plot revolves around Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, an autistic accountant who becomes embroiled in a high-stakes web of international money laundering for notorious criminals. The film also starred Jon Bernthal as Braxton, Christian's brother, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, J. K. Simmons, Grant Harvey and others.
Talking about his thoughts behind not involving Anna Kendrick in the sequel, O’Connor told Entertainment Weekly, “When Bill and I started talking about the second movie, it was very important that we didn’t want a love story. We wanted a love story with brothers. We wanted to do a ’48 Hours’ or ‘Midnight Run’ kind of buddy picture,” O’Connor said. “Then the third movie, which is what the plan has always been, is for [Christian’s] quest for love and connection to be consummated. I don’t know what that’s going to be yet, but that’s the intention.”
