Tom Hiddleston is reuniting with the Russo Brothers for their upcoming Marvel film Avengers Doomsday, where he will return to his iconic role as Loki. Since his debut as the Norse god of mischief in Thor (2011), Hiddleston has captured audiences with his layered portrayal, making Loki one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. Fans now eagerly anticipate his return in AvengersDoomsday, which is slated for a 2026 theatrical release.
Tom Hiddleston teased Loki’s return in the new chapter of the MCU, despite the character’s apparent death at Thanos's hands in Avengers: Infinity War. Sharing his excitement, in an interview with Comic Book, he said,“[I’m] very, very excited. It’s really remarkable that I can talk about it because, mostly, I’m in a position of knowing and not being able to say anything. It’s been an extraordinary chapter of my life playing Loki, and it’s not over yet.”
Tom Hiddleston’s Journey as Loki in Marvel Universe
Tom Hiddleston first stepped into the role of Loki, Thor’s ( Chris Hemsworth) adopted brother and antagonist in Thor (2011). He went on to reprise the role in several major MCU projects, including The Avengers (2012), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). His most recent appearance came in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), continuing his evolution from villain to complex anti-hero.
About Avengers Doomsday: Cast and Release Date
Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday will bring together a star-studded cast, including returning heroes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Paul Rudd. The film also marks the official merger of the X-Men universe with the MCU. Iconic characters and actors such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, James Marsden (as Cyclops), and Rebecca Romijn will join the ensemble.
Avengers Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Following its release, the next installment, Avengers: Secret Wars, is expected to arrive in 2027, according to Variety.
