The F1 director, Joseph Kosinski, recently made a big revelation during an interview regarding his Top Gun franchise. After featuring Tom Cruise, Glen Powell and Miles Teller in Top Gun: Maverick, Joseph is ready to bring back the high-octane action movie for the fans. The director officially confirmed that the team is considering bringing Maverick’s story back to life with a more expansive and introspective storyline centred around Tom Cruise's iconic character. Without revealing much about the story, the acclaimed director explained that the next instalment will focus more on internal battles, rather than aerial conflicts.
Joseph Kosinski dropped some juicy tidbits during an interview with GQ, and said, “I think we've found a way to do it. Not only in the scale of what we're proposing, but the idea itself of the story we're telling. We're thinking much bigger… it’s a really existential crisis that Maverick has in this. It’s an existential question that Maverick has to deal with, that would make Top Gun: Maverick feel small, I think, as a movie, compared to what we’re talking about.”

Confirming the news, the director mentioned, “Yeah, there's still more story to tell for him. There's one last ride. So we're working on it now.” On being asked about pairing Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt together, Joseph quickly said, “Right now, it'd be Cole Trickle (Cruise’s 1990 character from Days of Thunder). We find out that he and Sonny Hayes (Pitt’s character in F1) have a past. They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths…”
Joseph Kosinski’s F1, starring Brad Pitt, was released in America on June 25, 2025, and has made waves online with its fantastic storyline. The movie has been released on June 27, 2025, in India, and fans are lauding the actor’s performance via social media.
